The South Side Rabbitohs is one of the two foundation
National Rugby League (NRL) clubs that have been in
existence since 1908. Dubbed the `pride of the league'
since 1925 they can boast a string of records, including
the most first grade premierships, the longest winning
streak and the biggest winning margin. Sadly, the team
also holds the record for the longest losing streak and
the biggest losing margin, which led to the team being
knocked out of the competition in October 1999. And
everyone thought that was that. What happened next is
what the South Side Story is all about. First, 50,000
Rabbitoh supporters tearfully took to the streets of
Sydney, holding a massive protest that locked up the city
centre. Support came from everywhere, from former South
Sydney players to media personalities. Among them were
Oscar winning movie star Russell Crowe and businessman
Peter Holmes a Court, who went on to form a new
partnership which guaranteed the club's future.
