If you can teach a child how to add and subtract, there is no reason they can’t also be taught to practice simple activities that result in better quality of life and wellbeing.

Being Down and Getting Up is a tender and beautifully simple book that gently reminds us—and especially our children—that every difficult feeling has a path to healing. With its rhythmic reflections and soft encouragements, this little book lifts spirits by showing how moments of sadness, fear, or anger can be transformed into joy, peace, and connection.

The book is powerful tool for nurturing emotional resilience, mindfulness, and gratitude. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or simply someone who cares, this book offers a warm, reassuring hand to hold through life’s ups and downs. Let it help you—and the little ones you love—find light in the shadows and strength in kindness.

“This charming book should stimulate valuable interactions between parent and child. I love the illustrations.” – Hugh Mackay, social researcher and bestselling author of The Kindness Revolution.

About the author:

Richard Siegersma was born into a conservative religious migrant family, hisparents wanting to provide each of their seven children with opportunities they thought only Australia could offer. A career in sales, marketing, consulting and senior leadership roles led to a journey of self- discovery to re-frame the religious constructs that were part of his life. His objective is to improve the quality of life, build strong communities, create educational resources and motivate everyone to become more resilient, care more about themselves, others and the planet.
